In the event of my present post as Secretary

of the Sanitary Board being abolished, I have the honour to request that in accordance with Pension Rules No. 14 (refer to Hongkong Civil Service List 1909 p. 138), I may be allowed to retire on a pension increased under sub-section three in that minute. I would add a further request that I may be continued in my acting appointment in the Registry of the Supreme Court without loss of salary till the spring of 1910 and thus be enabled to complete 20 years service before retirement.

My reason for submitting these requests

is I have read in the local press of a proposal to appoint me

2nd. Master in Queen's College.

For this appointment I feel myself now un-

-fitted on a double ground, firstly that for the last nine years I have been unable to keep pace with educational progress; secondly that my state of health will not allow me to carry out

scholastic duties in a satisfactory manner.

I suffer from severe recurrent headaches

and will obtain a Medical Certificate if required to do so.

At the same time I am feeling able to
